Tarja Visan: the lady behind the Buddha-Bar!

You are bound to have crossed paths with Finnish-born Tarja Visan, striding across the lobby of the Buddha-Bar Hotel on her way to presenting the B/Attitude Studio to her guests or to journalists keen to pierce the secrets behind her latest brainchild.

Maybe you wondered who exactly was hiding behind the stylish lady and co-founder, alongside her husband Raymond Visan, of the George V Eatertainment Group?

Upon arriving in France in the early 1980s to begin her career as an international model, Tarja pounced on the opportunity of travelling to the far-flung reaches of the world and gaining an insight into different cultures. She modelled her lifestyle on the precepts of wellness and respect for health that she discovered during her travels to Asia, from the Himalayas to the islands of Indonesia.

But it was in Paris with her husband that she embarked on the venture of the first lounge bars/restaurants offering an all-in-one experience instead of a simple list of services. With the spotlight clearly focused on Asia and the rest of the world, the establishments (B*Fly, Buddha-Bar, Barrio Latino and Barlotti) lost no time in attracting a large following, enchanted by the original mixture of dedicated playlists, sleek decor and architecture, sophisticated cuisine and revival in Parisian night-life.

Her passion for music and world cultures prompted her to create the George V Records label in 2001, whose "Buddha-Bar" compilations continue to represent a global benchmark.

Highly attentive to ecological issues and the need to take action to maintain the ecological status quo, she decided to produce DVDs and CDs with Alain Bougrain Dubourg. "Buddha-Bar Nature" and "Buddha-Bar Ocean" were created in 2006.

Her latest challenge involves promoting and sharing her philosophy and lifestyle through what she calls the chic and laid-back Buddhattitude, once again fusing her East and West influences. That is why in 2007 she began concentrating on her plans to create spas offering Asian and Tibetan body care treatments, beauty products and practices combining modern techniques and ancestral traditions in a sleek and stylish setting, without forgetting the ideal soundtrack to accompany the invaluable moments of relaxation in the spas with the collection of Buddhattitude CDs. Tarja Visan's first Buddha-Bar Spa therefore appeared in Evian-les-Bains, but you can also enjoy all the benefits of this wonderful atmosphere at the B/Attitude Studio of the Buddha-Bar Hotel in Paris.
